Dorchester County Industries Recognized at Annual Industry Appreciation Week Golf Tournament

Summerville, South Carolina

October 10, 2012 –

On
October 4, 2012, Dorchester County Economic Development hosted the 22nd
Annual Industry Appreciation Week Golf Tournament at the Pine Forest Country
Club in Summerville. The event is hosted
each year as a way to say "thank you" to Dorchester County industries that help
contribute to the overall economic health and well-being of the community. The tournament has since become a Dorchester
County tradition for the area’s 80+ industries and manufacturing operations.

As
a yearly practice, one week out of the year is nominated by the Governor of
South Carolina as Industry Appreciation Week to honor industries across the
state, and build awareness among South Carolina residents that existing
business is the primary force pushing both the local and state economy. Participating in Industry Appreciation Week
2012, and coinciding with the various activities planned for industry leaders
across the state, Dorchester County’s 18-hole golf tournament included 84 players
from both industry and non-industry teams.
Twenty-one, four-player teams came together this year to vie for the
coveted trophy. Industry teams played at
no cost to their representatives.

After a full day of golf and networking
opportunities, the winning teams were announced during the awards ceremony that
was held immediately following play. Winning
the trophy last in 2003, Robert Bosch, LLC was announced as this year’s first
place industry team winner. As is
standing practice, Bosch will display the trophy at their facility until next
year. Kapstone Charleston Kraft, LLC
received second place as an industry team, and Edisto Electric Cooperative won
first place as a non-industry team. Prizes were also given for the longest drive and closest proximity to
the hole.

"This event
truly is enjoyed by all, and the 2012 tournament was no exception. Industries mark their calendars each year
well in advance of the big day," said Chairman Larry Hargett of Dorchester
County Council. "We congratulate our
winning teams, and appreciate the support received by our event and hole
sponsors to make this a memorable celebration for our industries."

"In order to stay in
touch with local industries, our economic development staff visits our existing
industries in Dorchester County throughout the year," said Jon Baggett, Dorchester
County Economic Development Director. "This
enables us to provide additional services as needed, but during events like the
golf tournament, we express our gratitude to the many companies, large and
small, who have discovered the power of location in Dorchester County."
