Summerville’s new Walmart Neighborhood Market is opening its doors to the public 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 5 – and staff members are ready to go.

The 41,000 square-foot facility is located at 10635 Dorchester Road – near the intersection of Bacons Bridge and Dorchester roads. The store includes a full line of groceries and a drive-thru pharmacy.

Store manager John H. Phillips, Jr. describes the Walmart Neighborhood Market as a convenient place for folks to go grocery shopping.

“They are making it easier for customers to come in and out,” he said.

This is the first Walmart Neighborhood Market to come to Summerville. Another one in Ladson is scheduled to open Aug. 12 on Ladson Road. Two locations in Goose Creek opened earlier this summer.

Customers will still be able to order Walmart Supercenter items online and pick up items at the Neighborhood Market location.Staff members are currently staying busy stocking shelves inside the store, though they are still waiting on fresh produce to arrive in time for opening day, Phillips said.

“We’ll be in good shape by Friday, hopefully,” he said.

Brian Rock, pharmacy manager for the store, said there has been a big push for the drive-thru, which will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Rock expects the new market to reel in a lot of customers.

“It’s going to be busy,” he said. “We’re in a good location.”

The store will be open 24 hours a day. Phillips said there will be opening specials when the store opens, but he cannot reveal the specials yet.

The most rewarding part of opening the store thus far has been forming relationships; Phillips said staff members are eager and are looking forward to being involved in the community.

“And, of course, I can’t wait for our grand opening,” he said.
