The long-awaited Palmetto State Armory is scheduled to open Sept. 24.

The 40,000-square-foot sporting goods store will feature an 18-lane shooting range plus three archery lanes and a fishing outpost.

The grand opening starts at 10 a.m.

Adam Ruonala, chief marketing officer with Palmetto State Armory, said festivities will include all kinds of prizes, and giveaways for the first 250 people through.

Ruonala said it is “really exciting to be a part of the Summerville community and have this…come to fruition.”

The new Palmetto State Armory will occupy the former K-Mart building in the Heritage Square shopping center at the corner of U.S. 78 and Berlin G. Myers Parkway. The property was sold in September 2013 to 338 Magnum LLC. The store was announced for the shopping center in July 2014 and the sign for Heritage Square came down the following November.

Renovations include work inside and outside the building. As for the rest of the development in the shopping center, Ruonala said they have officially announced Harley Davidson, Summerville Pediatrics Dentistry and Planet Fitness will be joining.
