Dorchester County boat manufacturer Freeman Boatworks heading to the White House

The company will represent South Carolina in the 2019 Made in America Showcase

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – Freeman Boatworks, a leading manufacturer of performance fishing catamarans, was selected to represent the state in the third annual Made in America Showcase at the White House on Monday, July 15.

“We are excited to once again host businesses from all 50 states at the White House to highlight and celebrate American-made products,” a White House official said. “In today’s booming economy, President Trump and his Administration are proud to tout businesses that create jobs and support our local communities.”

Businesses from each of the 50 states have been invited to display their products made and produced in the United States. Freeman Boatworks plans to showcase an American-made Freeman34VH during the event.

“We are honored and humbled by the opportunity to represent the state of South Carolina and Dorchester county in our nation’s capital,” said Billy Freeman, founder of Freeman Boatworks. “It’s surreal to think that our dream of building a better boat would result in an invitation to the White House.  None of this would be possible without our dedicated hardworking employees and everyone in the Freeman Family.”

Founded by Billy Freeman in 2007, the company’s performance fishing catamarans are experiencing manufacturing growth consistently topping 30% over the past three years. Their rapid business growth and entrepreneurial start were credited for the company’s invitation to this year’s showcase.

“I am so proud that Summerville’s Freeman Boatworks is being recognized in this year’s Made in America Showcase. Our vibrant marine manufacturing industry—exemplified in the stellar craftsmanship of Freeman Boatworks—supports jobs, boosts tourism, and are key engines of economic growth,” said Rep. Joe Cunningham. “The Lowcountry is home to so many phenomenal businesses and I’m glad to see them getting recognition they deserve.”

Dorchester County leads the state in marine manufacturing employment with five boat manufacturers calling the county home.

“Boat building is big business in Dorchester County,” said County Council Chairman, George Bailey. “We’re proud to have Freeman Boatworks recognized on a national stage and proud of all the fine boats crafted in our county each day.”
